DoubleTake adds recording flexibility to the latest iPhones. DoubleTake by FiLMiC Pro takes making great films without the most expensive gear another step further. The app allows filmmakers to record with two cameras simultaneously. It supports iPhone 11 Pro Max, 11Pro, 11, XS Max, XS, and XR with iOS 13.0 or later.
I learned from this what the app does and how it makes filmmaking for iPhones much better. One thing it does is that it helps decide how to frame your shot and which cameras you will select. DoubleTake also lets you decide if you want to record your videos as separate discrete files or if you want the video recorded as a composite video that includes the PiP window animated as you see it on screen. It also allows you to use any 2 cameras to creat a 50/50 split-screen effect that is saved as a single video.
This doesn’t really have much implication for me as a filmmaker because I don’t have one of the newest iPhones that the app can be used on, but it does make it easier for others to make good films without having the most expensive equipment. It would also have less people managing one camera in camera crews and more people could be shooting with multiple cameras on their phones. The article says that every smartphone production is instantly a potentially multi-camera shoot. This would help make smartphone filmmaking even better and would make it a just as good option as using more expensive gear and it would also be more accessible because they could just pull their phone out of their pocket and record quality films.
One question I have is what makes this recording so great that they might use smartphones over one big camera in a camera crew? I would also like to know how this will change films? Will it still look the same as films that use more expensive gear? Also would smartphones be used more in film in the future? Could smartphones maybe overtake the film industry in the future? To find more You could possibly go to the organizations website to see if they talk more about the future of filming on smartphones or what they plan to do for the future with their app.
